An annual April experiment in creating a Fake Journal~ FAKE: pretend, simulate; counterfeit; to alter.manipulate.
or treat as to impart a false character or appearance.

A fun exercise in pretending to be someone else, maybe in an alternate universe!

Anything You Want

Collage: vintage book illustrations,
computer generated arrows and
 registration mark, scrapbook papers,
red illustration on vellum from
dollar store book.

The best resources are garage sales
and second-hand stores. Auctions
can be hit or miss...but a bargain
can be found if you don't have
much competition.

Always looking for a good price

and an unusual image.

Adding my own drawings to
vintage ads...

from a vacation brochure, circa 1956.

Look for possibilities.

Sharpie pen drawing on
calendar/organizer page, of a
restaurant dinosaur toy, circa 1990's?
 Scrapbook papers and vintage ad
illustrations, along with text from the
same ads. Post cereal on one side,
and Campbell's celery soup on the
other side. Watercolor washes
also on pen drawing.

I don't think this particular
dinosaur eats celery...

Who could resist a great photo
of celery?

They don't make 'em
like that any more.

rendezvous with junk

Note about my character:  I am human.
After all, if I were an inanimate
object, or an animal, I wouldn't
be able to hold a pen to draw,
 scissors for cutting,
or be able glue stuff down.

 This fake journal is about
 pretending to be another person~
what mediums I would use in
that alternate reality,
a different style of working,
 different subjects that the
 character would be interested in.
(rather than what I am interested in)
It's a little hard to explain,
and I think perhaps a bit
 impossible to completely
remove all of my personal biases!
 I don't intend to go into a
 complicated fictional story.
 This is about the art.
And about having fun making it
in a limited time frame.

Smile Big

Fake Journal 2015:
assorted papers, magazine
 clipping of  vintage photo,
pen and watercolor drawing.

When you use watercolor on
cheap yellow-lined paper,
it crinkles up and warps.
But I still like those lines...

Life is short.
Why live only one?

Let's Play Poker

Deconstructed dollar store book~
collage: 5 in. high by 4 3/4 in. wide,
assorted papers, vintage illustration,
and candy drawing.

During International Fake Journal
Month (April 2015) I will be journaling
as a different character.  Who it is
will be revealed at the end of the
month.  Come along for the
experiment, and see if you can
discover things about my alter ego,
and perhaps what I do for a living.
