An annual April experiment in creating a Fake Journal~ FAKE: pretend, simulate; counterfeit; to alter.manipulate.
or treat as to impart a false character or appearance.

A fun exercise in pretending to be someone else, maybe in an alternate universe!

I am missing colors...
I need to find some crayons.

  1. Schizophrenia goes along with homelessness. Although it falls outside the purview of Human Factors, we still studied ways to educate the homeless.

What gave it away for me was the hat. I saw that and realized who you were talking about. I didn't really need the rest of the clues after I saw that hat with the vacant "no one home" text. It definitely reminded me of the homeless I saw in Seattle, where there is a real problem.

Many of the homeless collect useless items, like styrofoam cups. They guard their worthless possessions and mumble senseless nonsense. Those who live in Wichita seem more "sane" than those in Seattle.

Wichita is threating to pick them all up, but I'm not sure where they are going to ship them, since our jails are full of people who committed serious crimes. The commissioners have passed a law that they can no longer pan handle, and those caught doing so will go to jail. It all stems from the fact we were awarded two lucrative NCAA basketball contracts, one for 2018 and one for 2021. They don't want the homeless anywhere near downtown during those events.

Homeless people actually don't usually own combs and toothbrushes, and if they did, they wouldn't have anywhere to brush their teeth. Sorry I'm rambling, but this touched a chord.

    1. yes, I have always thought that homeless people must have a mental or emotional problem, or they wouldn't be living on the streets. But from some of the articles I read online ( I know, take with a grain of salt) there are actually Working People who are homeless too, who just cant pull together the resources to get a place to live, but who try to look presentable for work by washing up and grooming in public restrooms. I am sure there are lots of different stories and circumstances, and they're not all the same. This was a hard one for me and I've had trouble identifying with and imagining what the character would see and do. Pure survival seems to be the major priority. Some of the things I chose to draw were 'necessities' suggested in an article I read-like the can opener, because at food pantries the food you get is often in cans. Just my interpretation, I am sure it's not the most accurate, but it is Fake!

  2. I love your drawings Dianne. You are so good at them, but I do say, I miss a little color. But that's just me and my love of color. Happy rest of your weekend. Hugs-Erika
